MALAWI NEEDS DOERS NOT OBSERVERS.R

 The path seems to be full of potholes, humps, thorns, dirty and many encumbrances but multitudes still value it as an initiator of success. Most nations recognise it as the heart of sustainable development goals and essential for the success of all other goals. Everywhere around the world people praise the power of it even developing countries spend an increasing proportion of their scarce resources believing this traditional path to development. This hidden treasure is called education.

Janet Abena Quainoo in African leadership magazine wrote that education is the tool that equips individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to contribute to their society growth and development. No any doubtful when members of the communities including presidents challenge graduates to address the problems through their skills and innovations. One of the academia professor Emmanuel Kaunda who is also vice chancellor at Lilongwe university of agriculture and natural resources assured Malawians during the 7th congregation that graduates are fully prepared with skills and knowledge to combat with food insecurity, climate change, deforestation, pest and diseases, initiate agriculture sustainability and among others because LUANAR like any other education institutions are solution providers.

Like what bible scripture in James 1 :22 says but be the doers of the word and not hearers only deceiving your own selves.

Authors like Tim sander and Herbert spencer wrote the aim of education is not a mere knowledge but action and education without application is just an entertainment. Graduates must exercise what they have learnt to bring changes to the country like Malawi and to the entire world.

But does Malawi one of the countries that are stalking on the tail of other in terms of well beings enjoy the products of education?

A place where most of graduates risked their lives flock to countries where the sounds of guns and machete are their everyday chores in seeking for green pasture? 

A country where people with knowledge are silent and those who do not are in high positions.

A nation where the light bearers are behind bars not for doing anything evil but because they are trying to bring the truth to the community.

A home where people with business ideas are hindered by huge taxes and lack of capital.

A community where most of the people get positions not because of what they know but who they know and which region they belong to.

A society where employees work from six to six but rewarded with minimal and delayed wages.

An area where graduates are recognised only during political rallies to chair the song of praising candidates.

Ready to fly to search for greener pastures

Malawi the warm heart of Africa can prove people wrong that life is very hard and it keeps getting harder every single day through reviewing of some policies and systems that retard the development. For example, mitigating tax percentage among both small and big businesses can create vast area to people within and outside country to invest in various businesses. In comparing with other nations Malawi has high tax tariff in customs duty and value added tax which registered 16.5% (PWC worldwide tax summaries last reviewed 21 April 2023). Government through public money rending institutions like NEEF should promote entrepreneurship through granting loans to those who are eligible and have good business plans and they should implement strategies that can help people to pay back. The nation should also put much emphasis on mega farms and other sectors such as tourism, transport, telecommunications and minerals. It is  obviously that agriculture provide one-third of GDP but this song starts loss value as the nation fails to produce enough food to eat due to relying on small scale farmers who most of the time they fail to cultivate their whole lands due to unable to purchase fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides following the price hike but with the initiation of mega farms can gain its past glory and through empowering other sectors may help to boost the economy. Malawi have to review the education curriculum in both secondary and tertiary to start offering courses and programs that are aligned with providing solutions to the challenges that country is prevailing; for example, instead of memorising the parts of hoe students should have to go and demonstrate how to use it on the fields. Technical and vocation colleges should be highly supported with adequate teaching and learning resources and offering some equipment to those who accomplish their levels.

Malawi is globally recognised with peace and unity and the same tools can be used to fight against corruption which is major barrier to the development. In judicial where people go and seek fairness, judgments must not be decided based on faces and the pocket of the litigants but the truth of the story. 

If education is the key to success, an engine to development and the future of the nations why country like Malawi is failing to utilise graduates wisely to expand society growth?
